Tribal forces in Syria free area with natural gas fields from YPG/SDF

(MENAFN) Tribal forces in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province have reclaimed territories containing significant oil and natural gas resources from the YPG/SDF terrorist group, according to reports.

Operating east of the Euphrates River and reinforced by units arriving from the west, the tribal groups took control of the Al-Omar oil field and the Koniko natural gas field, as stated by local sources in Deir ez-Zor on Sunday.

The area had experienced a security vacuum following the withdrawal of US forces, who previously used the fields as military outposts. As the tribal forces advanced, they also secured multiple towns and villages, including Shehil, Al-Hawayij, Ziban, Tayyane, Abu Hamam, Hatla, Garanij, Baghouz, Susah, and Shafeh, according to reports.

Images released by local media showed Al-Halabiya Roundabout in the Deir ez-Zor countryside after YPG/SDF forces withdrew, describing it as “a pivotal point and a major transport hub linking the eastern, western, and northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.”

Additional reports displayed former SDF positions at the Hatlah checkpoint and Al Muallaq Bridge in the Deir ez-Zor region, as well as al-Tabqah Prison after it was secured by army and internal security forces west of Raqqa province. Earlier announcements confirmed that the military had regained full control of al-Tabqah military airport.

Internal security units were also deployed in Al-Husseiniyah village in western Deir ez-Zor, reinforcing the state’s authority over the reclaimed areas, according to reports.
