Trump also praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio, saying he is doing a "fantastic job." He added, "He's a tough cookie. I can tell you that he's a tough cookie."
Earlier on Tuesday, Trump said he had held a positive conversation with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa. "I had a great conversation with the highly respected president of Syria," he told reporters before departing for the state of Iowa.
The president said issues related to Syria and the surrounding region are progressing smoothly, noting that developments there are "working out very, very well."
"So we’re very happy about it," he added.
